Here at The Gallery Fitted Kitchens, we take pride in crafting spaces that aren’t just functional but feel like the cherry on top of your home. Our latest creation? A delectable in-frame kitchen in Edgbaston that’s as rich and indulgent as a Black Forest gateau. Let’s take a slice of the design and see what makes this kitchen a true feast for the senses.
A slice of luxury: The layout
The kitchen we cooked up for Rachel and Anant is a social space that’s anything but vanilla. We’ve taken their existing kitchen and folded in a dining room and garden access, creating a blend of elegance and functionality that’s simply delicious. The extra height in the room gave us the perfect excuse to whip up extra tall units. Standing at a staggering 2,500mm, with single doors that add a streamlined finish no (English) kitchen company could match.
Rich layers: The island and Tall Bank
At the heart of this Black Forest dream is the stunning German reeded oak veneer island and tall bank. This isn’t just any island; it’s a showstopper, like a perfectly layered trifle, that’s both practical and beautiful. The oak veneer doors, stained in a subtle pastel smoke, add a hint of sweetness. While the Black Forest granite worktops with a textured matte finish are as deep and decadent as the famous cake itself.
To complement the island, the tall bank of units stretches upwards like the tallest, most elegant of sponges.
Painted in a rich Tuscan Red, thanks to a perfect match with Little Green Paint Company, these units add a warm, inviting tone that’s the perfect counterpoint to the darker elements of the kitchen space.

The perfect finish: Details that delight
What’s a dessert without its finishing touches? In this Edgbaston kitchen, the devil is in the details. The engineered wood laid in a parquet pattern adds texture and interest underfoot. And the under-wall unit lights? They’re piped in like a delicate frosting, providing a soft, ambient glow that makes every culinary creation feel special.
The feature island boasts reeded glass in the cabinets, with the inside painted red to match the doors. A visual treat that’s both unexpected and delightful, like finding a hidden layer of jam in your cake. Antique brass handles and a matching tap complete the look, adding just the right amount of sparkle to the space.
The icing on the cake: Cutting-edge appliances
No Black Forest kitchen would be complete without a cherry on top, and for the Desai family, that came in the form of Siemens Studioline appliances in a sleek all-black finish. These aren’t just any appliances – they’re the kind you can only find in independent shops like ours, with a 5-year warranty that’s as comforting as a warm pudding on a cold day.
But the real pièce de résistance? The Kaelo wine chiller tucked within the island. It’s the kind of luxury that turns every meal into a celebration. Like the perfect dessert wine that rounds off an exquisite meal. With this addition, the Desais can keep their favourite bottle chilled and ready to serve at the perfect temperature.
At The Gallery Fitted Kitchens, we believe that your kitchen should be more than just a place to cook – it should be a space that brings people together, like the perfect dessert at the end of a meal. This Black Forest-inspired kitchen in Edgbaston is a testament to that belief, blending rich textures, luxurious finishes, and cutting-edge technology into a space that’s as satisfying as the finest confection.
Imagine a desert wine in a Black Forest kitchen, sweet!
